DERMATOFIBROMA REMOVAL

Dermatofibroma is a type of skin growth that is typically benign in nature and can be found on various parts of the body, although it is most commonly found on the legs. These growths are usually small, firm, and painless, and may have a slightly raised appearance. While dermatofibromas are generally not harmful, some individuals may choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons. If you have any concerns about a skin growth, it is always recommended to seek the advice of a dermatologist or other medical professional.

The exact cause of dermatofibroma is clear. However, they often seem to appear after a minor injury to the skin such us a prick from a thorn or an insect bite. It is more common in women and usually appears on the legs. While dermatofibroma are generally harmless, it is important to have any new or changing skin growths evaluated by a dermatologist to rule out any potential health concerns.

Dermatofibroma can be removed through a simple surgical procedure. The procedure involves numbing the area with a local anaesthetic and then cutting out the dermatofibroma. In some cases, a small scar may be left behind, but it will fade over time.

Dr Chowdhury will inspect the dermatofibroma before he decides to remove it. He won't perform the removal if he doesn't deem it is safe to do so. The lipoma may need to be sent for histology to confirm the diagnosis.
