MOLE REMOVAL

A normal mole is usually symmetrical, well defined with a round or oval smooth edge, and a uniform colour. It's typically smaller than a pencil eraser and doesn't change in size, shape, or colour over time. They are caused by the clustering of pigment cells called melanocytes, and can be influenced by genetics and sun exposure. Fairer skin types generally have more moles, as do those who spend lot of time in the sun. Moles can also change or appear due to hormonal changes such as puberty or pregnancy.

While most moles are harmless, it's important to keep an eye on any changes in size, shape, or colour, as this could be a sign of skin cancer.

Moles can be removed through a simple surgical procedure. The procedure involves numbing the area with a local anaesthetic and then making an elliptical deep incision with a 2mm margin of normal skin. In all cases, a small scar will be left behind, but it will fade over time. Benign moles on the face can be safely and effectively removed using Cryotherapy with a CryoPen, helping to achieve a smoother cosmetic result. Before treatment, the mole will need to be confirmed as benign by Map My Mole to ensure it’s suitable for removal.

Dr Chowdhury will inspect the mole before he decides which treatment option is suitable for removal. He won't perform the removal if he doesn't deem it is safe to do so. If the mole is excised, it will need to be sent for histology to confirm the diagnosis.
