VOLUME LOSS

Facial volume loss is a natural phenomenon that occurs as a result of the aging process. It is a condition that is characterized by a gradual loss of fullness and plumpness in the face, which can lead to a sunken or hollow appearance, particularly around the cheeks, temples, and eyes. It is caused partly by the breakdown of proteins such as collagen that provide structure to your skin. With age we also naturally lose some bone and muscles mass. Levels of elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid gradually decrease in ageing, thereby contributing to a loss of structural integrity and elasticity.
These changes alter the underlying structure of the face, making the mid-face and cheek area appear collapsed.
There is also, loss of facial fat tissue due to fat reabsorption. All these combined results in loss of volume in various areas of the face and cause skin sagging. This can also result in the formation of wrinkles and fine lines, which can further contribute to an aged appearance.
Sags and bags occur due to skin laxity or drooping, which can be caused by various factors:
-
Loss of fat under the subcutaneous tissue
-
Loss of collagen and elastin fibres in the dermis resulting in reduced cutaneous strength and elesticity.
-
Gravity also plays a role in causing the lax tissue to sag.
This results in eyebrows dropping over the eyelids, upper eyelid dropping, baggy upper and lower eyelids, tired- looking eyes with a prominent groove beside the nose (tear-trough deformity), jowls (loss of jawline), loss of neckline, elongated earlobes, dropping of the tip of the nose and thinning of the upper lip.

However, there are several effective treatments available, such as dermal fillers, that can help restore volume and rejuvenate the face, thereby enhancing one's natural beauty and confidence. Dermal fillers can be used to soften lines and wrinkles as well as shaping and contouring various facial features – reintroducing youthful plumpness. Dermal fillers work by boosting the skin’s supply of hyaluronic acid. This injectable substance has a gel consistency made up of stabilised, non-animal hyaluronic acid, which is tissue-friendly and closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that exists naturally in the body.

At Astounding Skin Aesthetics, we offer a range of Dermal Fillers to help replenish the loss of volume and help rejuvenate skin giving it a more youthful appearance.
